CARLOS PLAZA PHOTOGRAPHY
In July 1980, my father, Gonzalo Plaza, gave me my first camera for my nineteenth birthday. It was a wonderful manual 35mm Voigtländer film camera. All of the photographs in the "My First Images" portfolio were taken with that camera during the years I spent in Europe studying and learning the art of photography under his guidance. I have owned numerous cameras since then, of different formats and brands, and all the images published in this modest retrospective, which spans five decades of my life, were taken with those film and digital cameras in many countries around the world, which I had the privilege of traveling to during my youth, thanks in part to my father, who lived in Europe for most of his life and always supported me in my two great passions: traveling and taking photographs. All the images in this retrospective are dedicated to him, starting with those basic exercises where he would send me out to look for reflections in the streets of Vienna, in the middle of a snowstorm, with a roll of 36 exposures of 400 ASA black and white film and a completely manual and complicated camera to use. Thank you so much, Dad... I hope you like it!
